Road Cutting Blades: An Efficient Tool in Road Construction

Table of Content [Hide]

Basic Structure of Road Cutting Blade

A road cutting blade typically consists of two parts: the body and the blade. The body is generally made from high-strength alloy steel, providing good impact resistance and toughness. The blade is made from diamond or carbide materials, offering extremely high hardness and wear resistance. During the cutting process, the blade embeds into the ground material and, through high-speed rotation, precisely cuts through concrete or asphalt pavements.

Common Types of Road Cutting Blade

Depending on the construction materials, the complexity of the working environment, and equipment compatibility requirements, road cutting blades can be classified into three categories based on the materials used. Each type of blade differs in performance, service life, and cutting effects.

    Diamond Cutting Blade

The diamond cutting blade is the most popular type of road cutting blade currently. The blade part is made from industrial-grade synthetic diamonds and metal powder through a hot-press sintering process, providing high bonding strength, sharp cutting ability, and excellent wear resistance. It is particularly suitable for cutting hard materials such as concrete, high-strength cement, and granite. In urban road renovation, highway maintenance, and similar projects, diamond cutting blades offer significant stability and durability, making them the preferred choice for contractors.

    Asphalt Blade

Asphalt materials are relatively soft but have a certain level of stickiness, so conventional blades can easily become clogged or experience blade detachment during cutting. Therefore, the blade formula of asphalt blades often includes more flexible metal binders and is designed with wider chip clearance gaps to improve debris removal and reduce temperature buildup, effectively extending the service life. These blades are ideal for municipal road paving, surface grooving, and similar projects, especially in high-temperature environments during the summer.

    Universal Blade

Universal blades are designed for use with a variety of materials, offering good material compatibility. They are suitable for use in uncertain construction conditions or temporary operations. For example, in road repair projects where the transition area between concrete and asphalt needs to be processed simultaneously, universal blades provide good flexibility. However, their professional performance is generally slightly lower than that of dedicated blades, and they are not recommended for large-scale continuous construction.

    Applications of Road Cutting Blade

    • Road Repair and Expansion: In projects that require grooving, joint expansion, or partial pavement demolition, the cutting blade can achieve precise cutting, avoiding unnecessary material waste.

    • Underground Pipeline Construction: In cable, water supply, or drainage pipe installation projects, the ground must first be cut to create space for excavation.

    • Municipal Emergency Repair Projects: In cases of sudden pavement collapse or pipeline leakage, the cutting blade can quickly complete grooving, improving emergency response efficiency.

    Considerations for Selection and Use

    • Material Compatibility: Different pavement materials require matching blade types. Otherwise, it can lead to severe blade wear or reduced cutting efficiency.

    • Blade Diameter and Equipment Power Compatibility: The blade diameter should match the cutting machine's specifications. If the diameter is too large or too small, it can affect safety and cutting depth.

    • Construction Environment: In high-temperature, dusty, or humid environments, blades with special protective features should be selected.

Additionally, during operation, strict adherence to safety standards is required. Protective gear should be worn, and the blade's wear status should be regularly checked and replaced as needed to ensure construction safety.
